FAITH WHEN YOU’RE ANXIOUS OR AFRAID
7 Bible Verses for When You’re Anxious or Afraid
Anxiety can make even ordinary moments feel overwhelming. Whether you’re worried about the future, facing something difficult, or struggling with thoughts that won’t settle, God’s Word offers reassurance.
These seven Scriptures remind us that we can bring our fears to God, lean on His strength, and find comfort in His presence, even when our circumstances haven’t changed.
1. Philippians 4:6–7 — Bring Your Worries to God
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)
Reflection: God invites us to bring every worry to Him through prayer. We don’t need to have everything figured out before approaching Him. Even in uncertain circumstances, His peace can guard our hearts and minds.
2. Isaiah 41:10 — God Is With You
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
Reflection: When fear makes you feel alone, remember that God is near. You don’t have to rely entirely on your own strength. His presence offers comfort and courage for whatever you’re facing today.
3. Psalm 56:3 — Choose Trust in the Middle of Fear
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” — Psalm 56:3 (KJV)
Reflection: Faith doesn’t mean we never experience fear. Sometimes it means choosing to trust God while we’re still afraid. You can bring your trembling heart to Him exactly as it is.
4. 1 Peter 5:7 — Give Your Worries to God
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Reflection: You were never meant to carry every burden alone. God cares about the worries that keep you awake, the fears you rarely speak about, and the concerns that feel too small to mention. Nothing weighing on your heart is too insignificant to bring to Him.
5. John 14:27 — Receive the Peace Jesus Gives
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” — John 14:27 (KJV)
Reflection: The peace Jesus offers isn’t dependent on everything going according to plan. Even when life feels unsettled, we can turn to Him for a deeper sense of reassurance and hope.
6. Psalm 34:4 — God Hears You When You Seek Him
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” — Psalm 34:4 (KJV)
Reflection: When anxiety feels overwhelming, prayer is a place to begin. God hears us when we call on Him. We can seek His comfort and guidance without feeling ashamed of the fears we’re carrying.
7. 2 Timothy 1:7 — Remember the Spirit God Has Given You
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
Reflection: Fear doesn’t have to define your relationship with God. Through His Spirit, we can grow in courage, love, and steadiness. Even on difficult days, His grace is available to help us take the next step.
