A Prayer Before Labor Begins

If labor is getting close and your heart is carrying both excitement and fear, take a quiet moment to bring it all to God.

A PRAYER BEFORE LABOR

Lord, Be With Me as Labor Begins

Father,

As I prepare to meet my baby, I bring everything I’m feeling to You—the excitement, the uncertainty, the fear, and the anticipation. You have been with me through every day of this pregnancy, and I trust that You will be with me through every moment of labor too.

When fear begins to rise, quiet my heart. Remind me that I do not have to know exactly how this birth will unfold to know that You are near.

Give my body strength for the work ahead. When I feel tired, help me take one moment, one breath, and one contraction at a time. Give me courage when things feel difficult and peace when circumstances are different from what I imagined.

Please watch over my baby. Keep this little life safe as we move through labor and birth. Surround us both with Your protection and care.

Give wisdom, patience, and clear judgment to every doctor, nurse, midwife, and person caring for us. Help me feel supported, heard, and calm in the decisions that may need to be made.

Lord, help me loosen my grip on the things I cannot control. I can prepare, hope, and make plans, but ultimately I place this birth in Your hands. Whatever the hours ahead bring, remind me that I am not walking through them alone.

And when the moment finally comes and I hold my baby for the first time, help me pause and recognize the gift before me—the little life I have prayed for, waited for, and carried all these months.

Thank You for bringing us this far. Go before us now. Give me peace for what I cannot predict, strength for what I must walk through, and trust for every moment in between.

Amen.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
— Psalm 56:3
